Finding the Right Wordpress Theme
Wordpress. What an awesome tool. I wish I’d had it during all those days struggling with MS FrontPage, Macromedia Dreamweaver, etc.
Well, I know now and knowing is half the battle, right?
So, how do you find the right Wordpress theme?
Typically, the first place I go is straight to my favorite search engine (which though once was Yahoo! has now been replaced by the unrelenting peer pressure and that damn catchy catchphrase!) Google.
Some useful search terms:
- “free wordpress themes”
- “free premium wordpress themes”
- “free magazine wordpress”
I find that “premium” produces really cool themes with (duh) premium features, such as Flickr integration, Twitter, built-in galleries and/or image re-sizers, etc.
Magazine-like wordpress layouts are exactly that, very e-zine like. Great, flashy, impressive-looking sites, but only if you have enough content to fill it out. (which typically I find that I don’t!)
Sometimes, depending on the nature of the website, you can search for more specific phrases…
For example:
- “free gallery wordpress theme”
- “free portfolio wordpress theme”
- “wordpress theme”+”flickr integration”
- “free simplistic wordpress theme”
The great thing about Wordpress is how easy it is to change your theme. So, download a bunch that you like and try them out! And of course there are paid themes also, for more advanced users, which offer a whole lot of cool tools.
Here’s some resources that I’ve found in my research and some I use myself for Wordpress Themes.
Enjoy!
