Just ordered from Xing Wong because it’s the only Chinese food restaurant that was delivering + accepting online orders.

I ordered the beef & broccoli and feel compelled to talk about it.

The broccoli was very good. Fresh, green, not overcooked or over-saturated with sauce.

However, the beef was inedible. There wasn’t a single piece that I put in my mouth which wasn’t an intolerable mushy/chewy/fatty/rubbery texture. Geee-rrrosss!!

I would never order the beef & broccoli again. I would however, order something else with BROCCOLI.

The pork fried rice is ok, a little buttery tasting and actually there’s too MUCH pork for me, but it’s otay.

I’m about to eat the egg roll too because I’m hungry still, since I had zero beef. I think I swallowed one piece, and that was one piece too many.

Delivery time was super fast, they did follow my note regarding “include chopsticks but no sauces please!” since I hate accumulating duck & soy sauce, there’s no fortune cookie, and I wish I’d had the option to get a wonton soup instead of egg roll.

*Bit into eggroll* Soft & warm, fresh, not a nasty eggroll with too much red stuff. It’s not bad. Never really been a fan of that bitter cabbage taste in Chinese food egg rolls, I prefer Korean mandu. I ended up scooping out the insides and eating just the fried wonton skin.

In conclusion, Xing Wong = Ok, 2.5 out of 5

Broccoli=Good

Beef=bad.

So unless you’re from RI or have spent some time there (or possibly watch Food Network), you’ve probably only ever heard of Quahogs from Family Guy. Still, you could also be Rhode Island born & raised and yet while you may have heard of quahogs, you’ve never actually tried one. (Like Me!)

Well, here you have it… a photograph of genuine Roe Dyland quahogs driven down to Brooklyn by my father.

These are some baked quahogs. The texture is about what you’d expect from the picture, sort of a seafood stuffing but a little pasty, these had a little bit of spice but went down pretty easy. I’m not sold on why these are so “popular” in RI or RI culture, I much prefer our clamcakes ‘n chowda or good ol’ fish ‘n chips.

This first ChrisSites food review is both about the local Bay Ridge Chinese restaurant Xing Wong as it is about the GrubHub service.

This was my first GrubHub order. I found the GrubHub service to be very easy to use, pretty awesome. I love that certain menu items which need customization (for example, “soda” – you obviously need to specify what kind) have pop-up options when clicking, ensuring correct order taking.

I ordered from Xing Wong on July 14, 2011 @ 5:46pm. I ordered the Boneless Spareribs Combination Special($7.50) w/ the note “pepsi instead of egg roll please,” since I hardly ever eat the egg roll (unless I’m famished) and a side order of french fries($1.75), plus an additional can of Pepsi ($1.00) because one’s never enuf.

(Subtotal $10.25 + $.91 tax & added $2.34 tip cuz I like to make numbers even = $13.50 Total)

I also added “Special Instructions” chopsticks pls, but no sauces needed!

I was surprised & thrilled to see Paypal as a payment option, since I use Paypal often and used this to pay for my order.

I received an email from GrubHub within 2 minutes with an updated delivery time of 6:09p (20mins) I didn’t look at my clock exactly when it got here, though I did look a couple times and it was after 6:09 but damn close enough.

Ok, now the important part…the food:

Fries – cold and old tasting/looking, like they had re-fried some old fries (and that’s probably exactly what they did) They were much better in the morning, reheated in the toaster oven and with a lot of salt & ketchup.

Boneless Spare Ribs – Not great. The sauce was ok-tasting, but the spare rib pieces were cut WAY too thick and there were a lot of fatty (gross) pieces. The sauce was a bit too sweet also, and way too similar to the color of sweet & sour chicken sauce. Would not order this again.

Pork Fried Rice – pretty gross. bland. tasteless. and very yellow. I just think chinese (fast) food rice should be more brown than yellow, which reminds me of Spanish rice except this is much less flavorful.

Order accuracy – This, along with delivery time, were the only impressive things. They gave me chopsticks and no sauces, exactly as I’d requested. If only this held true for the next time I ordered from them, two days later…

Additional Note – They included a free pudding thing, it was either vanilla or lemon, lol, sorta tasted like both. This wins bonus points for me.

Conclusion:

Food: Below Average, I know it’s a Chinese place, but how do you eff up fries??
Service: Good
Price: Overpriced for the quality/taste. $1.75 for those fries?? Gross. $7.50, I threw away half of it.
